Here's some tight allegorical realism. And although it may not be so obvious in these three pieces I suspect there's more than a little influence in his work from the aptly named scandinavian painter Odd Nedrum

When I started trying to promote my own artwork online I kept coming across other people's art that amazed or compelled me in one way or another. This blog has been a way for me to practice thinking and writing about art, as well as learning more about my peers and all the incredible art that is being made out there.

David Tinman Edgar
This is a local artist who had an abstract piece in a small show at a library hereabouts (I also had a piece there, which is the only reason I saw it). There was something about it that made me think the artist did more than abstraction. I was right and here's a couple of other pieces along with that abstract I saw in the library. I'd love to see these Humvee paintings in person.

Here's another portaitist, at least for the time being. These are just three of an apparent series of several dozen at least. See the rest, and other older work on his flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/garciasaa/
I really love the brushwork here.

Klara Petra Szabo
These unpretentious paintings (mostly from photos it appears) have one big thing going for them: Flawless technique. Watercolor is not easy, but she sure makes it look that way.
There is loads of work to look at on her website szaboklarapetra.mosaicglobe.com and many more portraits of friends and fashion on her blog, artstyleblog.blogspot.com

Kate Bauman
I usually post pieces that represent a larger body of work. as far as I can tell this piece is unlike anything else she does (see kate-bauman.com). But it's so damn brutal, elegant and ingenious at the same time I just had to include it.

Nicholas Weber
More night scenes handled quite differently and very effectively than any of the others I've posted.
He does quite a few studies of female figures as well, but they all strike me as somewhat sexually idealized and not nearly so honest as these lonely introspective paintings. But no matter what he's painting there's no denying his talent.
There's a lot of work on his website: www.nicholasweber.com

These images are deceptively simple. They could very easily fail but something subtle occurs and they are haunting. As with any such artist not all the work seems to succeed on the same level but the successes make the endeavor worthwhile.
