When I started trying to promote my own artwork online I kept coming across other people's art that amazed or compelled me in one way or another. This blog has been a way for me to practice thinking and writing about art, as well as learning more about my peers and all the incredible art that is being made out there.

Tim Lowly

The variety in this man's work is quite astonishing and not at all apparent from my modest selection here. These are just three pieces that particularly struck me out of many. But for all the variety (realism, surrealism, allegory and symbolism, painting, photography...) there's a consistency behind all of it that says a lot about the artist. Good things.

Y Z Kami

Another artist who needs no notice from me. This guy's in the MOMA.
But he's new to me so here's a piece and another for scale. Sometimes size really does matter.
Click on this first image to get a better sense of it's intentional soft focus.
He has some work posted on www.artcloud.com
and at his gallery www.gagosian.com

Patrick Higgins

More disintegrating people slightly out of phase (see my earlier post on James Juron) these people are both anonymous and intimately familiar. A nice trick.

Jana Brike

To quote someone else's blog:
"Jana Brike paints visually arresting scenes of children and their ever-fascinating emotional landscapes. More often than not, the subjects are in the company of odd creatures who act as either guardians or adversaries."

Jane Andrews

I just love this piece.
Her work is very narrative and illustrative in the best possible sense.

"Negotiation"

Mandy greer

I saw the installation piece "Small but Mighty wandering Heart" in Seattle a couple of years ago and it was mesmerizing; all this beautiful red crochet and knitting work representing a vast field of viscera, and that connected to this cryptic chandelier of the same material. The photos don't do it justice. But then I'm sure that's true of all the work here.

"Wolf Prince"

Marc Schimsky

They're a little like color enhanced thermal photographs taken from a camera on a slightly different timeline. It seems his older work is primarily abstract and the representational pieces are a new gig.

Joseba Eskubi

Both beautiful and grotesque abstractions that seem to want to represent something, you're just not sure you want to know what.

James Juron

A bit of Francis Bacon genetically re-engineered using odd bits of Chaim Soutine.
A grim but effective experiment.

Kyle Stevenson

His earlier paintings are fairly formal though still wonderful interiors and portraits. But it looks like his most recent work is all about light and air. Wonderful.
You can see his work on Myartspace.com His regular website kylestevenson.net does not seem to be working but there are a couple other pieces at this gallery: ruthmorpeth.com

I'm fairly certain that this woman needs no help from me promoting her art. But wow.

Andy Kehoe

He's seems to be creating his own mythology full of sad gods and lonely creatures. His website provides access to his Flickr page, his blog and even a site where you can buy prints. Only $55. I'm thinking about it. (just noticed on his blog that he has recently moved to Portland - Welcome!)

POP-art!
She does a lot of apparent commissions of local people and places but it's the big iconic images that really work for the genre. And she pulls off some pretty daring color palettes.

It may be low-brow of me but there's something kind of Sci-Fi about these that I really like. He also makes some very cool furniture and architectural elements, though looking at the sculptures you wouldn't at first imagine wanting to sit on anything by this guy.
